Before attending chiropractic college the future chiropractor must have acquired 60 acceptable hours leading to a baccalaureate degree in the arts and sciences. A basic pre-med curriculum.
The doctor of chiropractic degree requires a minimum of four academic years of study at a chiropractic college, including practice in a teaching clinic.
The first half of the education consists of preclinical sciences including Human anatomy, Human dissection and topographical anatomy; Neurology, Embryology; Biochemistry; Physiology, nutritional physiology, Pathology, public health, x-ray techniques and diagnosis, Clinical human behavior, Diagnosis, Obstetrics and gynecology, Pediatrics and febrile disorders, Geriatrics and cardiovascular disorders, Dermatology, Otolaryngology, Psychology, Orthopedics, Physical therapy, First aid and emergency procedures, Spinal analyses, Principles and practice of chiropractic: manipulation, mobilization, manual therapy, adjustive techniques and clinic.
In the teaching clinics of the colleges, the advanced student obtains experience in diagnosis, treatment or referral to the appropriate physician or allied health care provider. |
